Featured Event: Author Talk for Aspiring South West Writers
An author talk hosted by young adult (YA) authors Emma Smith-Barton and Kesia Lupo, is being held in Bristol to celebrate National Writing Day, on Wednesday 26th June. The talk will focus on writing novels for YA, and how authors can get their work published. The event is being organised by Novel Nights, a monthly literary event in Bristol and Bath, that showcases and supports excellent writing and writers at all stages of their career.
Writing is a source of power and pleasure, and everyone has a story to tell. National Writing Day is designed to inspire people across the UK to get writing. The theme of this year’s call to action is a seven minute ‘write away’, a freewriting exercise. The theme is ‘place’. This can be a physical place, a place in time or an imaginary place. The objective is to inspire people everywhere to take part in the write away, which can be done in a classroom, at home or in the office. It can be done by hand, typing into a phone or tablet, doing a recording.
At the event, Novel Nights is inviting the next generation of writers to read their work, writers who are at secondary school or aged under twenty-four. Three writers will read short extracts from their novels or short stories, alongside Emma and Kesia.
