Why Write? – Polarbear (Steven Camden)

Steven Camden (Polarbear) is one of the most respected spoken word artists in the UK.

Regularly performing his work internationally since 2007, Steven has graced stages from Kuala Lumpur to California via Glastonbury and The Royal Shakespeare Company. His work has featured extensively on BBC Radio 1, 3 and 6.

He is also a published author, playwright and script mentor, with work touring nationally and internationally.

Why Write?

I think I write to figure things out. To figure myself out, myself in the world, myself in relation to other people.

I don’t really know what I’m doing most of the time, in my work and generally in life. And I’m all right with that. I’m all right with not knowing.

I’m terrified of answers because I don’t really trust them. And so I write as a way of experimenting and questioning things that I like and don’t like, or that I’m scared of or that I’m excited by. And it’s almost like the more I question the more content I feel in not knowing and writing lets me do that.
