Everyone Has a Story to Tell – What’s Yours?

This year, we want to explore the reasons why people choose to write so that people can relate to those reasons and get writing themselves.

There are all kinds of reasons why someone would put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, in order to write creatively.

So, the central question we are exploring this year, in order to come up with a host of inspirational thoughts from writers of all walks of life is “why write?”.

We’re interested in informative, intriguing, revealing, personal and moving looks at the reasons, hopes, frustrations and love that you have for writing. And we want you to share these thoughts with us.

First, consider why you write. Here are a number of ‘sentence starters’ that would allow you to expand on your reasons for writing:

Why write?

I write because…

Writing is…

My love of writing began when…

The best thing about writing is…

The greatest pleasure of writing is…

When I am writing…

Now, we want you to share your thoughts with us. Click here for some simple instructions on how to film your video.

When you’re happy with it, send your video file via WeTransfer to nationalwritingday@firststory.org.uk. Deadline for video submissions is March 18th!
